3、 Nature and Use

A strong rather than oxidizing acid with strong corrosiveness. Similar to acetic acid, it has a pungent odor, can emit smoke, has hygroscopicity, and a pungent odor. Non combustible, decomposes under heat or releases toxic gases in contact with acids. It is a good solvent for many organic compounds, such as when combined with carbon disulfide, which can dissolve proteins. An important fluorinated intermediate mainly used in the synthesis of fluorinated pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes, and for experimental reagents, solvents, and catalysts.
